KPIs are defined using the descriptive fields below. Changes to any of the definition fields for active KPIs require an approved PCR prior to implementing the desired change. The intent is to define the metrics and measurement methodology such that there is a consistent and repeatable process.

Name

The name of the metric is the primary reference point of the metric. The name is expected to be descriptive yet succinct. It should identify the data point being measured as well as the unit of measurement (e.g. count, average, rating, etc.).

This identifies the functional area within the OpenCI project that the metric is associated with. 

  • Executive Council facilitation

  • External Advisory Board facilitation

  • Communications coordination

  • Evaluation coordination

  • Program Tools & Processes support

 

Description

This is a description of what is being measured. In addition to the description of the measure, the content of this field should include:

  • How the metric is used to make decisions

  • How targets are set

  • Why the current target is a challenging yet reasonable target

 

Collection Methodology

This field describes the source of the metric data, as well as, how the data is collected and who collects it. This methodology should ensure reproducibility in measuring the metric data.

 

Target

This field establishes the designated performance target for current reporting year or interval.

 

Period

This field identifies the time interval in which the metric is collected and reviewed. Typically, the period for a metric will be either quarterly or annually.
