XDMoD

ACCESS MMS leverages the capabilities of ACCESS XDMoD to provide stakeholders with metrics regarding various aspects of ACCESS CI. These metrics include accounting and allocations, network data, science gateways, and hardware performance data. Various stakeholders such as end users, Principal Investigators, Resource Providers, and NSF program managers can view reports on CI usage and performance in XDMoD to ensure efficient utilization of these resources. In addition to currently servicing the ACCESS program, XDMoD contains historical data from previous NSF-funded programs TeraGrid and XSEDE.

 

Find my job efficiency:

The User and PI roles in XDMoD can view the Efficiency tab which contains information about the efficiency of the jobs that they have run.  Detailed information about particular jobs can be found under the Job Viewer tab in the ribbon near the top of the page. There is also a Search box to quickly find your job based on the Realm, Resource, Job Number, or other identifying information.  Please be aware that it can take a couple days before the job information is present in XDMoD. 

 

Check my allocation usage:

The Allocations tab under the navigation bar contains information regarding both activate and expired allocations for the signed in user. Higher-level XDMoD roles such as Program Managers and Center Directors can look up a wider range of users and their allocations. Basic information such as allocation date range and remaining Service Units (SUs) can be found on this page. More detailed information can be found by clicking the ‘+’ icon next to the respective allocation. 

 

What jobs are my group members running? 

Under the Metrics Explorer tab, click Jobs from the metrics catalog on the left. Select “Number of Jobs Ended” from the list then “None” from the drop-down menu. A plot of jobs ended for a given date across all of ACCESS should appear. For information regarding specific resources, click the Add Filter button near the top of the chart, click “PI” from the dropdown, and search for the desired PI. 

 

What is our resource efficiency? 

If your role in XDMoD is Center Director, it will show the CPU usage of the various ACCESS resources and their efficiency in the dashboard landing page of XDMoD. If you do not see this information, review the information regarding roles in XDMoD. 

 

What is our resource utilization? 

Under the Metrics Explorer tab, click Jobs from the metrics catalog on the left. Select “ACCESS Utilization (%)” from the list then “Resources” from the drop-down menu. A plot of all ACCESS allocated resources should appear. For information regarding specific resources, click the Add Filter button near the top of the chart, click “Resource” from the dropdown, and select the desired resource(s) to plot utilization for. The date range can also be adjusted under the Start and End times above the plot. 

 

Who is using my resource and what jobs are they running? 

Under the Metrics Explorer tab, click Jobs from the metrics catalog on the left. Select “Number of Users: Active” from the list then “Resource” from the drop-down menu. A plot of the number of users for ACCESS allocated resources should appear. For information regarding specific resources, click the Add Filter button near the top of the chart, click “Resource” from the dropdown, and select the desired resource(s) to plot the number of users for. Left click the chart and select Drilldown to obtain more granular information about specific users.

 

How do I get the data to prepare my NSF report? 

Under the Report Generator tab, an XDMoD user can create new reports, edit existing reports, or create report templates. Reports in XDMoD can automatically be configured to be sent out on a regular basis in the desired format (PDF or Word Document).

 

Check my resource Quality of Service (QoS).

XDMoD uses Application Kernels to track the QoS.  Under the App Kernels tab there are a series of application kernels in the catalog box on the left-hand side of the page.  Click the application kernel that reports on the desired QoS characteristic.  If you click on a given application kernel, there is a description of the application kernel and what it measures. When you have selected the proper application kernel select the resource of interest from the catalog box.
